The blog author is currently going through an Invisalign treatment. She has decided to share her experience in the hopes that it will help others make the leap too!
“Have you thought about doing Invisalign?”
Meagan the hygienist posed the question to me as I was getting my 6 month check up and cleaning at my West Seattle dentist office. She had just let me know that my mouth was pretty clean, except for some buildup around my lower front teeth where I thought I had one crooked tooth. I’d had braces a million years ago(or 20 years ago) but had since that point lost both retainers and things had moved a little bit. I didn’t think too much though. My teeth were still straight(ish).
“No, I hadn’t. Why should I do it?” (asked in a non confrontational, but rather interested and curious tone).
“It would help you keep your teeth cleaner because it would be easier to keep everything clean.”
“Hmm, that’s a pretty good reason.”
“I’ll have Dr. Kirchner talk to you about it when she comes in for your check up.”
Dr. Kirchner then came in and sat down to do the exam. We chatted about why I would benefit from Invisalign. I asked if it would fix the spaces behind my upper canines. I ALWAYS get food stuck there, especially stringy meat like pulled pork (yum!). She said that it would, and fix the diastima(space) between my two front teeth (Wow! Things really had moved around in 20 years!). They let me know it would just be about 5 or 10 more minutes to get all of the information they would need to make the trays, and that my insurance would cover some of the cost. I decided to go for it!
I moved to another room, and one of Dr. Kirchner’s highly trained assistants quickly took a full mouth series of x-rays and then used the iTero machine to scan a map of my mouth. This all took literally about 10 minutes, which I appreciated since I had all three kids with me! They let me know that everything looked good, and that they would let me know when my Invisalign trays came back from the lab, ready to wear. I settled up, money wise with Areesa and was on my way. It was seriously that simple!
Think Invisalign takes forever to get going? Think again! If I had known it was all this simple, I would have gone for it earlier!
Check back next time to see what happens at the first visit to get your trays!
